About
Failte oirbh! Magaidh an seo, a native Gaelic speaker from the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland a tour guide, researcher and performer of Hebridean cultural word and song.
My Hebridean island heritage is at the core of my work. I grew up up in a traditional island crofting community in the 1960-70s.
Realising the richness and fragility of community oral tradition or beul aithris, I embarked on a mission to record and share as much information as I could. Beul aithris later became some of the articles featured here.
I live by the seasons like so many islanders. A tour guide and bed and breakfast host during the summer months. The rest of the year I can be found working in Gaelic arts development or up to my oxters in research relating to Gaidhlig or some aspect of historical or contemporary island life.
